The larger Echo Show adds the feature with a software update.
The large Amazon Echo Show 15 can be mounted on a wall and act as a real digital bulletin board for your home.
And with a new update, the smart display becomes much more useful.
Alexa, say hello to Fire TV
Amazon announced in a blog post that a free software update is rolling out the Echo Show 15 to bring support for Fire TV.
Whether you’re downloading the update or setting up a new Echo Show 15, you can add streaming apps like Netflix or Hulu, then provide your login credentials to get started.
The on-screen experience is identical to that found on Fire TV Sticks and TVs with built-in Fire TV.
To access the Fire TV option on the Echo Show 15, just say “Alexa, open Fire TV”. You can also ask something more specific like “Alexa, open Disney+” or “Alexa, play Jack Ryan.”
For the best experience using the Fire TV feature on the display, Amazon recommends using the optional third-generation Alexa Voice Remote.
With the hardware remote, you can press the home button to quickly bring up the Fire TV interface. Buttons on the bottom of the remote let you customize quick access to live TV or other streaming apps.
If you don’t have a hardware remote, you can also use a virtual remote. It will appear on screen to navigate and control non-touch video applications. As a third option, you can also use the Amazon Fire TV app on your smartphone.
Another recent addition to the Echo Show 15 is spatial audio processing technology for a better experience. It’s designed to sound like a wide stereo system for more immersive sound.
