Ring of Elden and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Developer FromSoftware is creating a new Armored Core game, which promises to be challenging and deliver visceral mech-based combat. But the creators behind Armored Core 6: Fires of the Rubicon say their revival of the franchise isn’t just a “Soulsborne” game in heavy metal clothes.
FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki said IGN in an interview his company isn’t trying to direct armored core 6towards Soulsborne-like gameplay – the type of gameplay established in 2009 by Demon’s Soulsand refined for over a decade through dark souls, transmitted by bloodand, more recently, Ring of Elden. Instead, Miyazaki said, FromSoftware takes a hard look at the core concept of Armored Core and what made this series special “and applies its recent game development experience and “re-examines it with these core concepts of Armored. Core”.
In other words, Miyazaki told IGN that the assembly of mechs from Armored Core games and the freedom to “adjust each individual part” of your mech – which will determine how well your AC performs in battles – will be always present in Armored Core 6.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice director Masaru Yamamura is helming the new Armored Core, and he tells IGN that the samurai action game and Armored Core 6 “Share the same battle essence like aggressiveness, shifting and action-oriented combat.” Players will break the posture of enemy mechs, he said, letting them strike with critical hits.
“This is the starting point for the slow and rapid shifting of battle, and when combined with long-range firefighting and short-range close quarters combat, the enemy and his machine will engage violently, creating a more aggressive and dynamic battle that only mechs can engage in,” Yamamura explained.
Armored Core 6will focus on single-player for its story mode, Yamamura said, but there will be some sort of multiplayer element. “Dynamic and intense boss fights” will be the highlight of the game, Yamamura said.
FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco officially confirmed the reboot of the Armored Core franchise last week during The Game Awards 2022. But Armored Core 6The existence of had leaked months earlier, with images and a description of the game promising a “mecha third-person shooter action title that lets you move around a crushing scale map that represents A unique sci-fi world with dynamic mech action” and “fierce long and close range combat using guns and blades.
Armored Core 6: Fires of the Rubicon will be released in 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
