Developer Vivid Storm has released a new gameplay trailer showing Ascension from the ashesthe company’s X-Com meets RimWorld colony simulator, in action.
Ascension from the ashes is a post-apocalyptic game which puts the player in charge of managing a settler community under constant siege by raiders, aliens, and other forces. And this means that the player must protect all the settlers under his care. Which means you will need to build a colony that can support the population And fend off external threats. And This means that you will also have to retaliate by sending your soldiers on an expedition.
Vivid Storm was born from a popular RimWorld fashion, Prolonged fightwhich completely overhauled the game’s combat. Instead of a percentage-based shooting system based on counter stats, Combat Extended added a ballistic shooting model, rebalanced the game’s weapons and armor, and performed tons of other balance changes. Ascension from the ashes takes these changes even further, evolving in its own game.
Ascension from the ashes will force players to be very careful with the fights, which take place in real time. You can pause at any time to consider the battlefield, which could be against simple rogues like raiders… or hyper-intelligent alien predators. It only takes one or two hits to take down a settler. Stressful ! Luckily, there seem to be relaxing elements to the game as well. Settlers will have to grow their own food and build their own barracks.
I’m really interested to hear more about this game, which is due out later this year. Ascension from the ashes is also the host of the coldest pig i have ever seen in my lifewho doesn’t seem to care about any robots or looters outside his little green field.
