England’s Bello twins missed out on a historic guaranteed medal in beach volleyball after losing to Canada in the semi-finals at Birmingham 2022.
But they still have a shot at winning a first-ever Commonwealth Games medal as they play for bronze against Rwanda on Sunday.
Javier and Joaquin Bello won the first set against the 2018 silver medalists.
But Sam Schachter’s experiment came to fruition as Canada won 1-1 before taking the decision 15-7.
“A lot of things have gone wrong for us,” said Joaquin Bello.
“They played an amazing game and pulled themselves together after dominating the first set.
“We definitely could have had more pressure on their serve, there were a lot of elements in our game that were missing in that third set.
“The good thing is that we know what we have to do and we will try to bring that tomorrow [Sunday].”
Previously, Australia beat Rwanda in straight sets to stage a rematch of the Gold Coast gold medal game from four years ago.
