Formula 1 workers have been advised not to travel to the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix circuit on Wednesday due to heavy rain at Imola.
Staff preparing for this weekend’s race were ordered off the track on Tuesday due to the risk of flooding.
The Santerno River next to the circuit is high and the area has received a maximum red weather alert.
Some of the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari facilities are flooded, although the F1 paddock is not.
The F1 commercial rights holder and governing body the FIA did not comment on the extent of the risk to the running of the event from Friday to Sunday.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix is set to be the sixth race of the season and is the first of three events over consecutive weekends, followed by Monaco and Spain.
The track was evacuated on Tuesday to ensure the safety of staff amid uncertainty over whether the river would overwhelm flood mitigation systems.
Rain continued overnight and into Wednesday morning as team staff and other officials were told they could not access the track.
The car parks and parts of the area surrounding the circuit are flooded and weather forecasts call for continued rain throughout Wednesday ahead of the first official activities at Imola on Thursday.
Teams would normally spend Wednesday finalizing preparations for a race weekend before the drivers arrive at the track on Thursday for technical briefings and media activities.
Further updates are expected later Wednesday.
