Emma Raducanu says she hopes she’ll be fit for the Australian Open this month, but tries “not to expect too much”.
The Grand Slam starts next Monday, with the full extent of the 2021 US Open champion’s injury still to be diagnosed.
“We’ll see hopefully by Monday or as soon as the tournament starts,” Raducanu said.
“We’re just taking it one day at a time and not trying to expect too much at this stage.”
Raducanu left the court in tears last week after rolling his ankle in the second set against Slovakia’s Viktoria Kuzmova 6-0 5-7.
The world No. 75 will be hoping to improve her second-round exit on her Australian Open debut in 2022.
“It was really unfortunate because I felt good in my season and I felt really good with the preparation that I did physically,” said Raducanu, who worked with former physical trainer Andy Murray, Jez Green, in an effort to get fewer injuries. prone.
“I just had an accident on the pitch, I don’t know what I could have done to really prevent that.”
Raducanu had an injury-blighted 2022 season, withdrawing five games, but said she was uninjured and felt “good” after an exhibition game in December.
