Manchester City need two wins to retain the Premier League title after dispatching relegation-threatened Everton to Goodison Park.
Pep Guardiola’s side will be guaranteed their third successive title with six points remaining from their games against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford.
But the Toffees had to pay a heavy price for Mason Holgate’s blatant miss when he went unmarked at the far post, with the defender somehow hanging on from yards out.
City were second best so far but showed how clinical they are in front of goal by going down the other end and scoring twice within the space of two minutes.
Ilkay Gundogan was the star of the show, involved in all three of City’s goals with a sublime finish before providing the cross for Erling Haaland’s close-range header.
The midfielder curled in a glorious free-kick from the edge of the box in the second half as City took a four-point lead at the top, although Arsenal could recoup the deficit with a win over Brighton later on Sunday.
Everton’s defeat leaves them looking nervously over their shoulders with two games to play, hovering just a point above the relegation zone.
More soon.
