FuboTV announced in a statement that its recent outage during the France-Morocco World Cup match was caused by a cyberattack.

The FuboTV outage was the result of cybercriminals

On December 15, 2022, sports-focused streaming service FuboTV issued a statement via Business Wire regarding the outage experienced by customers during the World Cup soccer match France vs Morocco on December 14. This game was streaming on FuboTV’s platform, although customers reported at the time that they were having trouble accessing their accounts.

FuboTV quickly took to Twitter to apologize to users for the issue, describing it at the time as a “cyber related incident”.

Shortly after, FuboTV discovered that the outage was caused by a cyberattack, not a bandwidth issue on the company’s part.

FuboTV managed to contain the attack shortly after the issue first appeared and is working to restore users’ access to their FuboTV account as soon as possible. In the BusinessWire StatementFuboTV told readers that it “deeply regrets[s] the disruption caused by this incident in the meantime. »

FuboTV did not go into details of the attack

As of this writing, FuboTV has not discussed the nature of the attack suffered on December 14. We don’t know if this was some kind of denial of service attack, zero-day exploit, or some other method.

We also don’t know if the cybercriminals responsible for this attack managed to get their hands on valuable data, such as personal customer information.

It appears that the investigation into this cybercrime is still in its infancy. FuboTV assured readers that it will provide more information as things progress.

FuboTV is investigating the attack

FuboTV wrote in the aforementioned statement that it is currently investigating the attack to learn more about what happened. The company has partnered with cybersecurity firm Mandiant to take a closer look at this event and craft a response. FuboTV also alerted law enforcement to the attack.

We may receive updates from FuboTV regarding the incident in the near future as the investigation continues.

Online services continue to be targeted by cybercriminals

Over time, we continue to see more and more well-known digital platforms falling victim to cyberattacks. This most recent incident with FuboTV is representative of how malicious actors leverage illicit methods to compromise online services and affect users.
