If you have a Google Pixel phone, you might have noticed that its battery has been draining at an alarming rate recently. Google has now confirmed that this issue is caused by a recent Google App update, which has now been fixed.
“A recent change to the Google App backend unintentionally resulted in a subset of Android devices experiencing accelerated battery drain,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement to Mashable. “We deployed a fix shortly after becoming aware of the issue, and affected users should see their devices return to normal behavior immediately. This fix does not require an app update.”
The issue was first reported by Engadget(opens in a new tab)which noted that several Pixel owners had turned to the r/GooglePixel(opens in a new tab) subreddit as well as Google support forums(opens in a new tab) complain about the problem.
Although the recent Pixel battery drain issue has been resolved, this is a good reminder to check the power usage settings on your phone. The Google app might not be consuming your battery, but other factors, such as your phone’s auto-brightness setting or location services, are consuming more power than necessary.
While a rapidly draining battery isn’t an immediate issue plaguing your long TikTok sessions, it’s still useful to know how to squeeze out that extra bit of power if you ever need to stretch your load.
