Samsung has a history of introducing powerful new display technologies in its phones. The following are no different.
Almost three years later Corning’s first Gorilla Glass manufacturer Victus tech, the next series of flagship smartphones from Samsung will use Gorilla Glass Victus 2, by a Press release(Opens in a new window). These currently unannounced phones will be the first to use the new version of Victus, presumably to provide better protection against damage from dropping the phone on hard surfaces.
Corning says the Victus 2 can survive drops of up to one meter onto concrete and up to two meters onto asphalt. If you don’t believe it, there are YouTube videos of drop and scratch tests to demonstrate how well it apparently works.
Sidenote: Dropping phones on hard surfaces to test screen durability sounds like fun work.
As for the end of Samsung’s market, the timing of this announcement coincides well with the galaxy unboxed stream next Wednesday. It’s widely expected that Samsung will announce a trio of Galaxy S23 phones at the event, and unless Corning’s announcement is just a wild coincidence, you can safely assume those phones will run Victus 2.
Remember one thing: the best way to make sure your phone doesn’t break is to not drop it at all. Do not tempt fate.
