Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech’s proposed loan to Paris St-Germain has been blocked by French governing body the LFP.
A deal has been agreed ahead of the French deadline for the 29-year-old.
But PSG sources criticized Chelsea’s conduct, saying the documents required were not delivered in time.
Ziyech was in Paris awaiting confirmation of a deal but registration was not complete so he will return to Chelsea for the rest of the season.
BBC Sport understands the player contacted Chelsea owner Todd Boehly directly in a bid to resolve the issue, but his appeals were ultimately unsuccessful.
The LFP rejected PSG’s appeal this morning.
Ziyech was the Blues’ first signing after their 2020 transfer ban, arriving from Ajax for £33million.
However, they signed strikers Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Noni Madueke and Joao Felix this month, in addition to England’s Raheem Sterling who joined last summer.
