Hollow Knight: Silksongthe long-awaited sequel to the beloved indie hit of 2017 hollow knight, won’t be released in the first half of 2023 (hardly surprising at this point, since we’re already well into May). Team Cherry developer Matthew Griffin made the announcement on Twittersimply saying that “development continues” and refusing to give an expected release window for the game.
Actually, song of silk never had an official release date. But it did make an appearance as a trailer during Microsoft’s showcase in June 2022, which claimed to only feature games slated for release within the next 12 months. (song of silk is not the only victim of this showcase, which also presented star field, Forza Motorsportand several other games that have been postponed to late 2023 and beyond.)
“We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still ongoing,” Griffin wrote. “We’re thrilled with how the game is going, and it’s gotten pretty big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as possible. Expect more details from us once we get to it. closer to the exit.
Hey gang, just a quick update on Silksong.
We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still ongoing. We’re excited about how the game is progressing, and it’s gotten pretty big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as possible.
To wait for…

Griffin’s post effectively rules out any appearance in song of silk in the Xbox and Summer Game Fest showcases filling the void left by this year’s canceled E3. Team Cherry’s refusal to commit to a release date for song of silk is probably just a reasonable precaution, although the wording of the tweet doesn’t suggest the game will be released anytime soon. A late 2023 release or a shift to 2024 seems likely.
song of silk was first announced in 2019, but Team Cherry’s silence on its development, except for this 2022 trailer, has turned the vain hopes of desperate fans regarding news from all of the holders’ showcases. platforms into a kind of meme. Originally designed as an extension of the original hollow knight featuring the antagonist/ally of this Hornet game as the main character, song of silk became a sequel in its own right – and, it seems, quite ambitious.
Every time he appears, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. It will be available on Game Pass from day one.
