Forbidden Horizon Westthe new DLC, burning shores, was announced at The Game Awards on Thursday night. In the trailer, Aloy flies over the sea, on the back of a Sunwing – the pterodactyl-like machine. She flies over Los Angeles landmarks that appear to be the Griffith Observatory and the Capitol Records Building, before zooming in on the instantly recognizable Hollywood sign, a teaser for what can only be an expansion into Los Angeles.
burning shores will be released on April 19, 2023 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Forbidden Horizon West was released earlier this year. Although Aloy defeated Hades Protocol in the first game, Horizon Zero Dawn, the sequel confronts her with dangerous new threats. In west forbidden, Aloy must find a way to stop mass starvation from hitting the world – a journey that takes her along the beautiful West Coast.
The best highlights of the massive open-world game, beyond the action-packed machine combat, involved exploring and scavenging in recognizable towns. Aloy restores power to the neon lights of Las Vegas – complete with futuristic holograms – and traverses the rubble of post-climate disaster San Francisco. You can swim underwater and see the famous Ferry Building, completely submerged. A side quest even involves climbing a huge leaning skyscraper (possibly the Millennium Tower).
An extension allowing Aloy to make her way through Los Angeles would be very welcome, and in keeping with the theme. In the trailer, we’ve only seen the Hollywood sign get destroyed so far, but maybe Aloy will climb a palm tree, find an old In-N-Out Burger, or help revive Arclight Theaters? (I can say these things because I live here.) Just a thought.
Forbidden Horizon West is available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
