Joe Root was out for 10 in his opening legs of the Indian Premier League as Rajasthan Royals were beaten by 112 points by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Root overturned an lbw decision on one before being trapped in front by left arm Wayne Parnell after 15 balls.
It came amid a dismal batting effort by the Royals, including the loss of England’s Jos Buttler for a duck, as they were knocked out for 59 in 10.3 overs.
Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell reached their 50s in the RCB 171-5.
South African Du Plessis made 55 from 44 balls and Australian Maxwell from 33 balls 54 before the visitors were relieved 29 from 11 balls by southpaw Anuj Rawat to the death.
Rajasthan lost top scorer Yashasvi Jaiswal and Buttler, both without scoring, as well as captain Sanju Samson for four in the first eight balls, slipping to 7-3.
Root, who played in the Royals’ previous two games but didn’t bat, hit a four before missing a full ball to the leg stump.
The result seriously damages the Royals’ chances of reaching the play-offs with one game remaining and strengthens RCB, who have played one game less.
RCB joins their opponents with 12 points but sits above them in fifth place thanks to their superior net run rate.
Lucknow Super Giants are one point clear in fourth, with the top four advancing.
