Have your messages on instagram got fewer engagements than usual? Are you convinced to live a ever dreaded shadow ban? Instagram will now let you know if your posts are not recommended to other users. Instagram manager Adam Mosseri announced on Wednesday, December 7.
Creators and businesses can see if their posts are blocked in app recommendations, like at the end of Feed or Explore or other places Instagram shows photos and videos of people you don’t follow.

“Today we’re announcing new transparency tools so you can see whether or not your photos and videos are recommended in places like explore,” Mosseri said in a video posted to Twitter. “Now we know that reach can be volatile. You can see how many people you reach over time, and one of the reasons that happens is that sometimes your account can end up in a state where it’s not not eligible for your photos and videos in what we call recommendations.”
To find out if posts in your account are not recommended, click on the settings menu and go to account settings under “account”. There you can see if any of your posts are banned from being recommended.
There are a variety of reasons why your posts may be blocked – perhaps you’re not following community guidelines or your posts have been flagged too many times. This will probably be seen as a transparent tool for creators, but truth be told, the transparency I always ask to see from Instagram is about the intimate details of who (if anyone) blocked me. I suspect I will never know.
