Keaton Jennings will replace Dane Vilas as Lancashire captain in all three formats for the 2023 season.
Vilas, 37, is stepping down after four years in the role, during which he led Red Rose County to the Second Division title in 2019.
Jennings led the team to the One-Day Cup final last season in the absence of the South African striker.
The 30-year-old fly-half has also signed a one-year contract extension until the end of the 2025 season.
Jennings was the County Championship’s Division One top scorer last year with 1,233 runs at an average of 72. This included five centuries and a career-best 318 against Somerset at Southport.
This superb form earned him a call-up to the England Test squad for the Pakistan tour, but he didn’t add to the 17 caps he earned between 2016 and 2019.
Jennings has played 131 times for Lancashire since joining from Durham in 2018 and will be the county’s 37th permanent captain.
“Since my arrival, I have been fully aware of the pride this club has in its history and the passion that our members, supporters, players and staff all share for the Red Rose.” he said club website.
“I am extremely proud to lead this club into a new chapter and hope we can create more history together.”

Vilas captained Lancashire for four seasons, a role he often combined with maintaining the wicket, but has now decided the time has come for him to step down.
He led the team to promotion in his first summer in the role, but over the past two years Vilas has seen Lancashire narrowly miss out as they finished runners-up four times in three different competitions.
Although he will no longer manage the team, Vilas will still be part of the team as one of the county’s foreign players for 2023.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead this great county over the past four seasons, but I believe the time is now right to step back from that role and allow Keaton to continue the superb work that he has been doing. ‘he started last season One Day Cup,’ he said.
“I have always put the best interests of the team first and now I am delighted to continue to represent the Red Rose and help deliver performances that can allow this team to continue our challenge for silverware. I look forward to supporting Keaton, my teammates and the coaching staff any way I can.”
