Manchester United have cut capacity at Old Trafford by 12,000 for next Wednesday’s Carabao Cup fourth round tie with Burnley due to a ambulance strike taking place on the same day.
Manchester United said that option was not open to them for a number of reasons, including “the unavailability of other key public services and matchday staff over the Christmas period”.
The club has confirmed that West Stand tier two and North Stand tier three will be closed, leaving the link with a capacity of 62,000.
As the game is sold out, the club say they will contact those affected and offer refunds.
The game is United’s first since the season was interrupted for the World Cup. Of their contingent that played in Qatar, only Christian Eriksen and Facundo Pellistri are expected to be available.
Team Viewer ends jersey sponsorship deal early
Meanwhile, the club say they have reached “a mutually beneficial agreement” to end their £47m-a-year shirt sponsorship deal with Team Viewer early.
Team Viewer are Manchester United’s sixth shirt sponsor and the second to see their deal end early after Vodafone terminated their contract two years early in 2006.
The company signed a five-year, £235million deal with United in 2021, although last month said it was considering changing the terms of the deal.
Having brokered the latest deal during the pandemic, the club believe they are in a better position to speak to potential sponsors now.
Team Viewer will continue to appear on the front of United’s shirt until an alternate sponsor is found.
