Pele thanked his supporters for sending “good vibes” after confirming his hospital stay was a routine visit.
The Brazilian legend had a colon tumor removed in September 2021 and has since had regular treatment.
“My friends, I’m in the hospital for my monthly visit,” the 82-year-old wrote on Instagram.
The three-time World Cup winner included an image of a tribute to him at the Qatar World Cup next to the post.
And to add: “It’s always nice to receive positive messages like this. Thank you to Qatar for this tribute, and to all those who send me good vibes!”
ESPN Brasil also reported that Pelé had heart problems and his chemotherapy treatment was not having the desired effect.
His daughter, Kely Nascimento, has been moved to clarify on Instagram, saying, “There’s no emergency or dire new prediction. He’s in the hospital regulating meds.”
Pele is Brazil’s all-time top scorer with 77 goals in 92 games, and the former striker is one of only four players to score in four World Cup tournaments.
