Sandy Ryan says she’s “always trying to perfect her performance” as she prepares for an imminent world title fight.
The 29-year-old retained her WBC international light-middleweight belt when she outplayed Anahi Sanchez in her win at Wembley Arena on Saturday.
A fifth win in six fights since turning pro last year cemented her as the world number two in her division.
“I know the next fight will be big. I’m excited,” Ryan said.
Ahead of Saturday’s fight, Ryan said she and her team would hold promoter Eddie Hearn to his claim that she would soon earn a tilt for a world title.
The win over three-weight world champion Sanchez was her first since defeating former world champion Erica Farias in a rematch.
The win in August avenged the loss Ryan – a successful former amateur boxer who won Commonwealth Games gold in 2018 – suffered to Farias, 38, earlier in the year.
Ryan said she was “pretty happy” with her last performance, a unanimous points victory over Sanchez, in which the Derbyshire boxer tried to give “the fans what they like to see”.
“I can box, I could have made the fight a pretty easy fight and a pretty technical win, but I thought – and Cliff [trainer Clifton Mitchell] told me – to push a little and bring it to him.”
Mitchell was delighted to see Ryan win again in convincing fashion, but reiterated that they would continue to “striving for perfection”.
“For me, she showed things that she hadn’t shown before,” he said.
“Let’s not take it away from his opponent who is world class. You’re going to get caught with shots but we’re trying to eradicate that.”
