good news for star fieldBudding Completers: One faction’s questline will not prevent it from participating in another’s.
That wasn’t the case in Bethesda Game Studios’ latest mainline role-playing game, Fallout 4where the player was forced to commit to one of four alliances in order to complete the game’s main narrative.
In a YouTube discussion posted by Bethesda on Wednesday, lead quest designer Will Shen (who is also responsible for star field) explained that players “don’t necessarily end up leading every faction in the game.”
Player choices and actions will, however, influence a faction’s direction and purpose. “Let’s say ‘Freestar Rangers’ politics, what’s more important, is it justice or industry?” Shen said. “Where are you going to try to push them? […] All main characters and faction questlines will reflect on your choices. This can have far-reaching implications for what that faction is and what it cares about.
It means that star field will be more like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, which allowed players to visit the College of Winterhold, the Dark Brotherhood, and the Norse Rebellion, though it produced a somewhat jarring narrative overall. The difference in star field, apparently won’t players be chasing a rigid storyline that leads to each group’s fate, or the game’s overall story, as was the case for Skyrim and To fall 4respectively.
star fieldwith over 1,000 planets to explore, still has no release date, although Bethesda has narrowed the window to the first six months of 2023. The game will launch for Windows PC and Xbox Series X, and it will be available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day.
