‘Embarrassed’, ‘angry’ and ‘upset King Kong didn’t finish the job’ – some of the emotions New Yorkers felt when they saw their prized Empire State apartment building sporting green and white.
The fierce backlash came in response to the iconic Big Apple skyscraper marking the Philadelphia Eagles Victory 31-7 on the San Francisco 49ers to win the NFC title on Sunday night.
For a city that boasts two NFL teams, the Giants and the New York Jets, residents remained livid as the colors of their East Coast rivals lit up the skyline.
It wasn’t long before they were trolling the Empire State Building’s official Twitter account to make their feelings known.
The New York City Sanitation Department stood firm and told the building what everyone was thinking.
The account admin later wrote ‘It hurt us more than it hurt you’ and then decided to celebrate the Kansas City Chiefs – who the Eagles will play in the Super Finals. Bowl – changing the colors to red and white.
There seems to be no rest for passionate New Yorkers as their anger only grows…
