Leaked Pixel 7a renders show a device that looks quite similar to the 6a, but the specs suggest it will be a much improved mid-range phone.
Google’s Pixel 7a is still likely to be months away from launch, but leaks and rumors about what to expect are thriving. New renders have now given us our first glimpse of what the mid-range handset is likely to look like, and it looks a lot like the Pixel 6a, combined with some of the modern touches from the Pixel 7 series.
Pixel 7a design and specs
The renders come from the famous Twitter leaker OnLeaks, in collaboration with Smartpriceso while all leaks and rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, they come from a reputable source.
They show that the Pixel 7a will have dimensions of 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0mm, making it slightly taller, wider and thicker than the 6a, while retaining the squared corners and chin somewhat. little prominent that were present on this device. The camera bump has been redesigned in line with the style used on the Pixel 7 series.
Other details provided are consistent with what we already know about the Pixel 7a. The 7a appears to be the first A-series phone to feature a 90Hz display, new camera sensor and wireless charging (albeit pegged to a snail-shaped 5W ). This is on top of the same second-generation Tensor chip and new modem used in other Pixel 7 models.
There are still a lot of details missing, like the exact camera specs, battery size, and price. This means that there is still room for compromises, which we assume are inevitable.
With the details reported so far, the Pixel 7a looks very competitive against the Pixel 7, to the point that it’s hard to see many people opting for the more expensive model. The 6a was already quite an attractive phone at a great price, and the new screen, improved modem, and wireless charging support seem poised to address major user complaints about it.
The Pixel 7a is expected to launch in May
Google announced the Pixel 6a at its I/O developer event in May, so it seems likely that the company will unveil the 7a at the 2023 event. Exact dates have yet to be set.
But it’s still a long way off. If you’re looking for a new device in the meantime, the Pixel 7 continues to be one of the best Android phones, holding up well even in competition with the iPhone 14.
