Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Developer Fatshark released an open letter written by CEO Martin Wahlund on Tuesday, in which the studio acknowledged the co-op first-person shooter’s rocky launch and promised to shore up the game.
“We started […] to create a highly engaging and stable game with a level of depth that keeps you playing for weeks, not hours,” the statement read in part. He continues: “We did not meet those expectations. Over the next few months, our only goal is to respond to the feedback that many of you have. In particular, we will focus on providing a comprehensive crafting system, a more rewarding progression loop, and continue to work on game stability and performance optimizations.
Fatshark will delay The oil spill’s seasonal content and its Xbox Series X launch, while also pausing the release of high-end cosmetics. “We just couldn’t continue down this path, knowing that we didn’t address many areas of in-game feedback today,” Wahlund wrote.
The oil spill launched on November 30 for Windows PC, and has won acclaim for its visceral and satisfying combat, high-level audio and soundtrack, and richly detailed environments. The game was also criticized by fans for the random and inscrutable chance to upgrade weapons; his unsatisfactory weekly quests and rewards; and the incomplete state of craftsmanship. The game’s recent reviews on Steam are mostly negativewith mixed overall reviews.
