Kylian Mbappe scored twice for France as the defending champions set a World Cup marker by beating Denmark to become the first side to qualify for the knockout stage.
The forward stole the show again with strikes in the second half to get his side through.
Mbappe had earlier blazed from 12 yards and forced Kasper Schmeichel to a save with a rising shot.
But the Paris St-Germain star broke the deadlock just after the hour mark, trading a fine one-two with Theo Hernandez before going on.
Denmark equalized just seven minutes later with their first shot on target as defender Andreas Christensen headed home at the far post after France failed to clear a corner.
Christensen, however, may have felt lucky to still be on the pitch at the time after only being shown a yellow card 20 minutes into the game for backing Mbappe, who was looking for a clearance.
France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a hard save to deny Tottenham team-mate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s opening shot, while Martin Braithwaite fired into the side netting.
Four years ago, Mbappe became France’s youngest goalscorer in the competition at the age of 19.
And with four minutes remaining, he snatched the winner, sneaking past the far post to convert Antoine Griezmann’s cross.
Box office Mbappe revels in the spotlight
All eyes were on Olivier Giroud ahead of the game and whether he could become France’s all-time leading goalscorer and move away from Thierry Henry.
But the AC Milan striker failed to make an impact and was substituted just after the 61st-minute opener as Mbappe reveled in the spotlight.
At just 23, he already has 31 international goals and is fast approaching Giroud and Henry’s 51 goals.
Mbappe’s brace helped France win a sixth straight World Cup game for the first time and also become the first holders since Brazil in 2006 to qualify from the group stage.
He converted the former following a delightful trade with Theo Hernandez, who replaced his brother Lucas after a knee injury ended his tournament.
Defender Raphael Varane has started a game for the first time since October 22, when he left the pitch in tears for Manchester United against Chelsea after suffering a muscle injury in the Premier League game.
He got the first chance when a graze header was cleared off the line by Joakim Maehle.
Adrien Rabiot’s hopping effort was then deflected by Schmeichel, while the Nice keeper also prevented Griezmann’s low drive.
Although Denmark equalized through Christensen’s header – just one of Kasper Hjulmand’s men’s two goals – Mbappe returned Griezmann’s cross before celebrating passionately in front of the flag-waving French fans.
