Neymar appeared in tears on the bench at the end of Brazil’s maiden World Cup win over Serbia after being substituted with a sprained ankle.
The Brazilian team doctor has confirmed that the striker suffered the injury and will be reassessed on Friday.
“We are convinced that Neymar will continue to play in the World Cup,” insisted Brazil head coach Tite.
The 30-year-old was substituted in the 80th minute of Thursday’s 2-0 win after a heavy tackle from Nikola Milenkovic.
He sat with his face covered as he received treatment and footage showed his right ankle was badly swollen.
“I didn’t see that Neymar was injured – the ability he has to overcome it fooled me,” Tite added when asked why Neymar wasn’t taken off earlier.
The Selecao take on Switzerland in their second Group G fixture on Monday (1600 GMT).
“Tomorrow [Friday] we will have a new assessment,” said team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. “Now we have to wait, we cannot make premature comments.”
The Paris St-Germain striker has suffered several right foot injury issues over the past few years.
He missed the 2019 Copa America after suffering a torn right ankle ligament and was out for several weeks in 2021 with a similar injury.
Neymar was fouled nine times in the game against Serbia, getting four more free-kicks than any other player at this year’s World Cup so far.
