The internet likes to look too closely at images to try to extract information from potentially hidden corners. But in the case of Xbox Boss Phil Spencer, this is something worth investigating.
In a post to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the To fall series, which is now a Xbox Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, fans were quick to point out a small Xbox-branded box on top of Spencer’s shelf.

Spencer has played this game before, the most notable example being hiding an Xbox Series S on his shelf ahead of its November 2020 launch, which kicked off conspiracy theories on the Phil Spencer shelf to become a topic of frequent discussion.
“It’s probably a mistake on my part”, Spencer Microsoft plays down the significance, with the official Xbox account responding to Spencer’s tweet and calling the topic of discussion “an old prototype.” This has been reiterated in several publications, including Microsoft another product in the market that can attract an audience to its ecosystem at a discount as it will be cheaper to manufacture due to its small size and limited internals. It will reach a niche market that is either able to stream games reliably, or interested in trying it out, or finding other uses for it as a potential video streaming device for services like Netflix and Hulu, as they become available.
