Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have signed goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Borussia Mönchengladbach to a declared fee €9.5m (£8.3m).
Swiss international Sommer, 34, has won 80 caps for his country and signed a contract until July 2025.
Sommer comes on the cover of number one Manuel Neuer, who was ruled out for the rest of the season after break a leg while skiing in December.
Sommer said he was “very excited about this new challenge”.
He added: “We have big challenges ahead of us. I’m really looking forward to starting here with my new team-mates and everything that’s coming up.”
Sommer’s contract with Gladbach was due to expire this summer and the goalkeeper had been strongly bound with a move to Manchester United.
In August, Sommer made a record 19 saves in the Bundesliga as Gladbach held Bayern to a 1-1 draw.
He also played for Switzerland at the World Cup in Qatar, where they came out in the last 16 while they were beaten 6-1 by Portugal.
